Ένας κατάδικος χωρίς όνομα αποφυλακίζεται και ξεκινά το δρόμο του προς την περιοχή των Άμις, κάπου στα ανοιχτά της Πενσιλβάνια, σε μια μικρή φανταστική πόλη ονόματι Μπάνσι. Η πόλη αυτή έχει τον σερίφη της, έχει τον ιδιοκτήτη σαλούν (έναν άλλον πρώην κατάδικο ονόματι Σούγκαρ που παίζει ο Φράνκι Φεζόν του «Wire»), έχει τις γυναίκες, τους σκληρούς άντρες που προκαλούν αλλήλους σε μονομαχίες. Σε μια από αυτές τις συμπλοκές στο μπαρ του Σούγκαρ ο νέος σερίφης της πόλης, που μόλις έχει φτάσει και κανείς δεν ξέρει ποιος είναι ή πώς μοιάζει, σκοτώνεται. Ο ήρωάς μας κρύβει το πτώμα και παίρνει την ταυτότητά του. Περίμενε, γίνεται ακόμα καλύτερο. Ο παλιός του μεγάλος έρωτας, η Κάρι, πάλαι ποτέ Άνα (παιγμένη από τη γοητευτική Ιβάνα Μιλίσεβιτς), είναι τώρα παντρεμένη με τον δημόσιο κατήγορο, κάνοντας τα πράγματα ακόμα πιο πολύπλοκα για τον νέο μας κατάδικο-που-έγινε-σερίφης Λούκας Χουντ. Αυτό είναι το νέο του όνομα.
